eurydice (2026) was written in the final moments of the most brutal winter I've ever experienced for my friend Devin's final recital at the Mannes School of Music. eurydice is inspired by the Californian State Butterfly Zerene Eurydice and the tragedy of Orpheus / liberation of Eurydice.
With this work, I wanted to reimagine the moment Eurydice realises she must return to the under-world after Orpheus looked back. The focus is on breathy tones and textures, and flighty passages of bariolage.
eurydice was completed in March 2026 and is 4 minutes long.
